Chalcedony Jewellery at the Earring Collection

Chalcedony, (pronounced chal-see-doe-nee) is a type of quartz that occurs in many colours and forms. The name is most commonly used by jewellers to refer to the stone in it's white, grey or blue form. 'Chalcedony' is named such after the ancient Greek port of 'Chalcedon', situated in what has become Turkey in modern times.

In ancient times, the stone was considered sacred and has been used in traditional spiritual ceremonies by North American Indians to promote vitality.

Other variations are refereed to by particular names that illustrate the considerable diversity of this stone.
Aventurine and Chrysoprase ( sometimes referred to as "Prase"), have a large proportion of elements such as nickel in their make up that give them a green colouring.
Agate is recognised by its banded or striped appearance and is found in a range of colours.
Dendrite agate is usually white or grey and has darker inclusions which look like trees or ferns.
